TAKING ACTION TOGETHER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

Egypt rally in Trafalgar Square

Dear Mussie,

On Saturday we held a truly electrifying rally in Trafalgar Square, London. We stood in solidarity with the people of Egypt, and the wider Middle East and North African region and their dreams and demands for more freedoms and less poverty and corruption. And we stood in defiance of all those trying to suppress the growing movement of people standing up for their rights.

People were dancing, chanting, laughing and crying – Hosni Mubarak, Egypt’s iron fist ruler of 30 years, was gone. Trafalgar Square turned into a party zone for Egyptians but also Algerians, Tunisians, Syrians, Palestinians and many more. Thank you to all of you who came and made the event such a success. What happened in Egypt over 18 epic days was an inspirational show of people power but this is only the beginning of a momentous popular struggle to really bring about a human rights revolution in Egypt and across the region.

We and our partners in Egypt are clear that for Egyptians to be truly free Mubarak's machinery of repression must be dismantled. Read our demands for human rights reform: Egypt's next steps

Thank you. Kristyan Benedict signature Kristyan Benedict Campaign Manager - Crisis Response & Country Priorities

Ps - Many in Algeria, Yemen, Libya, Jordan, Bahrain (and indeed right across the region) are demanding exactly what Tunisians and Egyptians have demanded. We're developing a region wide campaign strategy to support the movement for reform. Keep up to date with what's happening and what we're doing here
